Bharatpur is a city in the state of Rajasthan,northwestern India. Bharatpur was founded by Maharaja Suraj Mal 1733 and was the capital of the princely state of Bharatpur.It was so strongly fortified that it successfully resisted a British siege in 1805, and it was not taken by them until 1826.Bharatpur along with Deeg and Dholpur has played an important part in the history of Rajasthan.The city is renowned for the superb bird sanctuary at nearby Keoladeo National Park. Over 230 species of birds are known to have made the National Park their home.
