Bikaner city is the administrative headquarters of Bikaner District of the state of Rajasthan in northern India. It is located 330 kilometres northwest of state capital Jaipur. It was formerly the capital of the princely state of Bikaner.The genesis of Bikaner dates back to 1488A.D, when a Rathore prince, Rao Bikaji, son of Rao Jodhaji of Jodhpur, choose a barren wilderness called ’Jangladesh’ and transformed it to a charming city called ’Bikaner’, after the founder’s name. The Camel Breeding Farm in Bikaner is only one of its kinds in whole Asia.
Bikaner forms the third important destination in the desert triangle, along with Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. It is Rajasthan's fourth largest city, situated in the Thar Desert. Popularly addressed as the camel country, it is a city surrounded by sand dunes. The imposing Junagarh fort and many palaces within it, contribute to its timeless beauty.
